Continuing Professional Education Program
Introduction

Continuing Professional Education is considered necessary within the health and allied health professions to assist practitioners maintain professional knowledge, update practising skills and ensure the highest quality care is provided for patients/clients.

Participation in the CPE program is encouraged but is not a mandatory requirement of Registration at this time. Registration is independent of the CPE program however you must be registered to be eligible for a Certificate of Currency.

What is the CPE program?

The CPE program is a system of accrediting and acknowledging your continuing post graduate professional training. A Certificate of Currency lets the public and professional bodies know that you have undertaken activities to further your education relevant to orthoptics.

A Certificate of Currency is offered to registrants of the AOB based on submission of continuing professional education credits gained in the two-year cycle of AOB registration.

The CPE program uses a system of points allocation. The number of points required to qualify for the Certificate of Currency is 50 points to be gained from at least two of four categories over the two year registration period. (Further information on categories and points: Points Allocation guidelines)

An effort has been made to ensure that points should be attainable by all interested orthoptists regardless of work place or location.

The CPE program will change and evolve over time allowing it to be responsive to the different circumstances and opportunities available to registrants undertaking the program.

The Board will review the program and points allocation system taking into consideration feedback received from registrants which will be an important aspect of the program's ongoing development.
