Continuing Professional Education Program
Recognition of an Activity

Registrants and organisers are encouraged to submit activities for accreditation and point allocation for activities taking place between 1 July 2007 to 30 June 2009. The activity will be evaluated by the Board and, if approved, placed in a category and allocated points.

The allocation of points is based on the participation level, recognised educational value and time involved in the CPE activity. Sufficient information of the activity must be provided for assessment and allocation of the appropriate number of points.

Apply for Accreditation

Organisers and participants may apply for accreditation of an activity prior to or up to six months after the activity has taken place. Download an application for Accreditation of CPE Activity. A reference number will be emailed confirming receipt of the application.

Activities should be approved prior to participation, however, if this has not occurred the activity should be submitted as soon as possible after participation. Please be aware that if you do attend activities that do not have prior accreditation the Board may disallow points claimed.

Please do not submit an activity for accreditation with your CPE Claim Form.

Activities are not automatically accredited. Each activity will be considered by the Board, therefore please do not assume that if you have applied for accreditation it will be automatically given.

Organisers seeking accreditation of an activity are invited to apply by completing an application form. A reference number confirming receipt will be emailed.

Established professionally relevant conferences will be accredited on submission of the program outline. Recognised conferences include:

  • IOA Congress
  • ESA
  • RANZCO
  • Squint Club
  • OAA annual scientific conference
  • AOVSM
  • ARVO
  • International Low Vision Conference

Progressively submitting activities during the biennium for recognition and point allocation will expand the reference list of accredited activities available to registrants.

Self education such as journal reading does not require pre approval. A guide to professionally relevant journals of appropriate educational level is at CPE Resources. Registrants must be aware that it is possible for the AOB to disallow points claimed if a Journal is not considered to be educationally relevant.

Accredited Activities

The CPE program will expand as activities are made known to the Board. A list of accredited CPE Activities is available and is progressively updated as submitted activities are accepted and allocated accreditation points. The reference number is to be included on your CPE Claim Form when applying for a Certificate of Currency.

On request, the points allocation of a conference may be upgraded after consideration by the Board if the program supports such a request.
