| About the AOB |
The Australian Orthoptic Board is the registration
body for orthoptists in Australia. The function of the registration
board is to regulate the profession of orthoptics in order to protect
the public. The Board holds a Register
of suitably qualified orthoptists and investigates the professional
conduct and fitness to practise of these registered orthoptists.

| Register |
The AOB Register
of Orthoptists can be viewed here.
It is the responsibility of the orthoptist to initiate and maintain
biennial registration. |
| Registration |
General registration is available to graduates of a degree program
in orthoptics awarded by a university accredited by the Board (the
University of Sydney and La Trobe University). AOB Registration
is granted for a period of two years with the current biennium being
1 July 2009 to 30 June 2011. Registered Orthoptists are issued with
a Certificate of Registration.
|
| Apply |
Orthoptists wishing to apply for registration can obtain
information here and
are invited to apply at any time during the biennium. The full registration
fee is payable regardless of when application is made during the
biennial cycle.
International: If your orthoptic training was from a university
or training institution outside of Australia, you will need to complete
an 'international registration'
application with full details of course subjects and content.

Certificate of Currency:
A Continuing
Professional Development program is offered with a Certificate
of Currency issued to registered orthoptists who accrue the
prescribed number of CPD points.
The Private Health Insurance Act 2007 require a practitioner
to be recognized by an accredited body before a Private Health Fund
can give a rebate to patients. A CPD Certificate of Currency is
recognised as qualification for Registrants who require a service
provider number - further
