the AOB |
The Australian Orthoptic Board is
the registration body for orthoptists in
Australia. The function of the registration board
is to regulate the profession of orthoptics in
order to protect the public. The Board holds a Register
of suitably qualified orthoptists and investigates
the professional conduct and fitness to practise
of these registered orthoptists.

The
AOB Register of Orthoptists can be viewed here.
It is the responsibility of the orthoptist to
initiate and maintain biennial registration. |
| Registration |
General registration is available to graduates of
a degree program in orthoptics awarded by a
university accredited by the Board (the University
of Sydney and La Trobe University). AOB
Registration is granted for a period of two years
with the current biennium being 1 July 2011 to 30
June 2013. Registered Orthoptists are issued with
a Certificate of Registration.

| Apply |
Orthoptists wishing to apply for registration
can obtain information here
and are invited to apply at any time during the
biennium. The full registration fee is payable
regardless of when application is made during the
biennial cycle.
International: If your orthoptic
training was from a university or training
institution outside of Australia, you will need to
complete an 'international
registration' application with full details
of course subjects and content.

| Continuing Professional
Development |
Certificate of Currency:
A Continuing
Professional Development program is
offered with a Certificate
of Currency issued to registered orthoptists
who accrue the prescribed number of CPD points.
The Private Health Insurance Act
2007 require a practitioner to be recognized by an
accredited body before a Private Health Fund can
give a rebate to patients. A CPD Certificate of
Currency is recognised as qualification for
Registrants who require a service provider number
