Welcome to the Australian Orthoptic Board

About the AOB

The Australian Orthoptic Board is the registration body for orthoptists in Australia. The function of the registration board is to regulate the profession of orthoptics in order to protect the public. The Board holds a Register of suitably qualified orthoptists and investigates the professional conduct and fitness to practise of these registered orthoptists.

Register The AOB Register of Orthoptists can be viewed here. It is the responsibility of the orthoptist to initiate and maintain biennial registration.
Registration

A person is eligible for general registration as an orthoptist if the person holds a degree in orthoptics awarded by a university accredited by the Board. AOB Registration is granted for a period of two years with the current biennium ending on 30th June 2009. Registered Orthoptists are issued with a Certificate of Registration which expires at the end of this period. There is a re-registration period which holds Registration active until 30th September following the end of the biennium.

Apply

Orthoptists wishing to apply for registration can obtain information here and are invited to apply at any time during the biennium. The full registration fee is payable regardless of when application is made during the biennial cycle.

International: If your orthoptic training was from a university or training institution outside of Australia, you will need to complete an 'international registration' application.

Continuing Professional Education

Certificate of Currency:
A Continuing Professional Education program is offered with a Certificate of Currency available to registered orthoptists who accrue the prescribed number of CPE points in the biennium preceding re-registration.
